D- How to report interrogative statements:

There are verbs which report questions such as, ask, wonder, enquire.

Want to know…

We report Yes/NO questions with if or whether.

e.g.: is your father in?

Rep. Speech: Dad, he asked if you were in.

e.g:  Has your brother gone to school?

Rep. Speech: Brother, he wanted to know whether you had gone to school.

In WH questions we use question words (e.g. Which, when, why, where

How) .They are used in direct speech as in reported speech.

E.g. which car did she take to Kissidougou?

Rep. Speech: He asked me which car she had taken to Kissidougou.
